Jovita Moore dead: Atlanta news anchor, 53, dies of terminal brain cancer

Atlanta news anchor Jovita Moore has died of terminal brain cancer aged 53, just seven months after she was diagnosed.

The journalist's WSB-TV co-host Justin Farmer confirmed the heartbreaking news on Friday, saying that she died peacefully "with her family by her side".

Moore is survived by her stepdaughter Lauren, children Shelby and Joshua, and her mother Yvonne.

In a tribute on air, Farmer said: "Today we will cry and we will remember and honour our colleague and friend Jovita Moore."

The anchor had been with the news station for two decades.

Earlier this year, Moore recalled feeling "really concerned" about why she was suddenly "disoriented, and just not feeling [herself]".

She explained: "Feeling like I was in a fog and really wanting to get out of that fog."

After two masses were discovered on her brain, Moore was diagnosed with glioblastoma, which is a common form of brain cancer.

Moore urged others to keep an eye on their health following her diagnosis, saying: "This journey for me started with an unusual headache, so if something’s not right with you, I urge you to please get yourself checked."

Her colleagues paid tribute, with Moore being described as a "humble person"

Chief Meteorologist Glenn Burns said that her "personality was absolutely incredible."

He continued: “One thing pronounced about Jovita was that she was a humble person. She was a very popular anchor woman, but a humble person. That humility you could see on set.”

While her fans hailed her as an "Atlanta legend".

While another commented: "It felt like I knew Jovita Moore personally. What a devastating loss."

Atlanta senator Raphael Warnock also paid tribute as he tweeted: "Very sad news to learn of Jovita Moore’s passing. Jovita had such a good spirit—beautiful inside and out—and I always enjoyed chatting with her.

"Sending light to @WSBTV and all who loved her. She will be missed, and may God’s peace and her life lessons abide with her children."
