Multiple news organizations' journalists were denied credentials to former President Donald Trump’s election night watch event in West Palm Beach, Florida. This denial was seen as a form of retaliation for their coverage of Trump’s campaign. Among the news outlets affected were Politico, Axios, Puck, Voice of America, and Mother Jones. Some reporters had initially been granted access to the event, only to have the decision reversed later on.
For instance, Politico's team of reporters and a photographer were approved to attend the event but were surprised to find their credentials denied on Tuesday morning. This decision was believed to be in response to an article in Politico magazine that reported a Trump campaign field director was fired for being a White nationalist. A Politico spokesperson declined to comment on the matter.
Puck’s political correspondent was also set to broadcast from the event as part of Amazon’s election night special hosted by Brian Williams. However, her credential was denied around the time she published a piece about “anxiety” within the Trump campaign. She mentioned on a podcast that her reporting had apparently upset Trump’s campaign manager, leading to the denial of her credentials.
