Jota to Celtic latest as Benfica identify transfer exit 'priority' that could impact market moves

Jota is edging towards the exit door at Benfica as talks continue over his permanent move to Celtic.

The Portuguese winger was an instant success under Ange Postecoglou last term as the Hoops claimed the 2021/22 Premiership title.

He netted 13 times with 14 assists in 40 games but he was only on loan in Glasgow.

Celtic are believed to have a £6.5million transfer clause as part of their original agreement with the Lisbon giants and Jota's parent club are said to be keen on finalising their transfers out the club.

They want those funds to boost their own summer transfer plans, according to Portuguese outlet Record, and have made a 'priority' outgoings list.

Celtic's target is part of that outgoing players list alongside soon-to-be former team-mates Everton and Gabriel.

Postecoglou has already made one of his loan successes of last term a permanent member of his squad by acquiring Cameron Carter-Vickers from Tottenham.

A move for Jota is widely expected to go ahead for the Parkhead side, who are looking forward to a title defence and Champions League group stage football this coming season.
