Jota targeted with missiles from Rangers fans as Celtic star raises concern over Ibrox objects

Jota was pelted with missiles by Rangers fans during the Old Firm derby at Ibrox.

The Portuguese star picked up an object that had been thrown from the Broomloan Road end of the ground and handed it to referee Steven McLean. Further missiles then appeared to be directed towards Matt O’Riley as he prepared to take a corner.

Whistler McLean took what appeared to be a lighter and handed it to fourth official Don Robertson. The incident took place on the 50 minute park with Rangers leading 2-0 through first half goals from Todd Cantwell and John Souttar. Former Celtic striker and Sky Sports co-commentator Andy Walker hit out, saying: “It’s absolutely ridiculous. Players have got to feel safe out there.” It comes just a year after the second half of the corresponding fixture was delayed when a bottle was smashed off Hoops goalkeeper Joe Hart’s crossbar.
