Jota reflects on Celtic's strong league position and Daizen Maeda's contribution

Jota completed the surprise return to Celtic during the winter transfer window, joining the club whilst they already commanded a sizeable lead at the Scottish Premiership summit.

His minutes were managed at first, but as the former Rennes playmaker has got back up to speed, he has further added to the incredible attacking options available to manager Brendan Rodgers.

The Portuguese star has four goals and two assists to his name, including a close-range effort to set Celtic on their way to a routine 3-0 victory over Hearts last weekend.

And he is desperate to see the Hoops bring their 'A-game' between now and the season's conclusion at the end of May.

Speaking to Celtic TV, Jota said: “Thrilled about that. I think obviously the guys fought really hard in the first six months of the season and then I joined in the middle, so they did a great job and that allowed us now to be in a very good position. So we go strong for the last matches.

"This is a moment where we have to pull out our ‘A-game’ but it’s a process. We’ve had to do it in the past in order to be in this place at the moment, but definitely we feel like we are walking towards our goal, and now is the time to give it that last push.”

The attacker also spoke highly of his teammate Daizen Maeda, who continued his exceptional form by netting a brace in Celtic’s triumph against Hearts, taking his goal tally for the season to an impressive 30.

Jota praised Maeda’s contribution, noting the team’s role in setting him up for success.

“Every season is different and the team is made for us to be the best version of ourselves,” Jota said. “Obviously, if everyone is doing their own bit then it’s going to allow other players to shine. And with Daizen I think that was the case. The team is putting him in very good positions to score and he’s doing a very good job on making it, and fighting really hard for the team, so credit to him.”

Rodgers' side can still win a domestic treble, with seven games remaining in the league and a Scottish Cup semi-final tie against St Johnstone to come, having already lifted the Scottish League Cup back in December.
