Jota offside goal for Celtic 'MISSED' by camera operator as human error blamed for disallowed VAR strike

The camera angle which led to VAR controversially ruling out Jota’s goal against Motherwell on Wednesday was used because a camera operator in a more suitable position MISSED the incident, according to a report. Celtic have been left raging after the Portuguese star’s wonder goal was chopped off following David Dickinson’s intervention and the Scottish Premiership champions are demanding answers from the SFA over the disallowed strike.

The image used appears to be inconclusive but questions have arisen as to why the angle came from a camera - there were the minimum six in operation with the match not beamed live on Sky Sports - positioned in the Celtic half of the ground. Now the Scottish Daily Mail report that it was down to “human error” and that the “QTV camera operator on the 18-yard line in the Motherwell end mistakenly failed to record the incident, resulting in a less-clear angle being shown instead.”

Ange Postecoglou didn’t make a big deal out of the goal being disallowed following his side’s 2-1 win at Fir Park which maintained their seven point lead at the top of the table and the club are said not to be focusing on the actual decision itself but “why the tight call wasn’t shown from a better vantage point.”

Steelmen chief Alan Burrows took to social media amid a storm on Thursday to insist his club had met all SFA requisitions in terms of the position of the cameras. He said: "We facilitate the Scottish FA in placing them where they feel is most appropriate. There were a few site visits by SFA and Hawkeye and 18-yard positions were selected in both halves. We even got one upgraded (at our expense). Both were in operation last night.”
