Jota in Celtic 'best moment of my life' admission as star lifts lid on Champions League goal that meant everything

Jota admits scoring against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu was among the best moments of his life despite Celtic falling to a 5-1 Champions League hammering from the Spanish giants.

The defeat ensured that the Scottish Premiership leaders finish rock bottom of Group F and without a win from six fixtures on their return to Europe's top table. But the winger, who had his family in attendance, was visibly emotional at full-time as he netted against the legendary Los Blancos during a 28 minute cameo despite his team's struggles.

Jota won a free-kick at the edge of the box with his side five goals down and stepped up to blast the ball into the top corner beyond Thibaut Courtois and he insists the moment is something he has grown up dreaming of. He said: "Definitely. I think this was one of the best moments of my life. As a kid I always looked for this teams and this stages and to come here and score a goal, I think it's a very important moment for me and for my family.

"And they were in the stands so they could see this in local so I am very happy for this."

The 23-year-old was returning from injury and may be placed back in the Hoops starting XI when they host Dundee United on Saturday with the aim of cementing their place at the league summit before the World Cup. Celtic lead Rangers by four points with three games remaining until the season takes a break.
