Jota Celtic return timeline provided as McGregor, Starfelt and Turnbull injury updates land

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou says Jota and David Turnbull will both miss tomorrow's Premier Sports Cup quarter-final against Motherwell.

Portuguese winger Jota has missed the last few games through a problem while 'Well academy graduate Turnbull has recently had a bout of tonsillitis. Captain Callum McGregor and defender Carl Starfelt are more long-term problems and Postecoglou admits both of them are still a while off returning to play. A chance to return to Hampden is the prize for the winner at Fir Park and the Celtic boss anticipates their foes could perhaps change from a robust approach during a 2-1 loss at Parkhead earlier this month.

Postecoglou said: "Jota’s progressing, He’s out training but he won’t be right for tomorrow. From the weekend, it will pretty much be as is. The ones closest to coming back at Jota and Turnbull but they'll miss tomorrow and we’ll just see about the weekend.

"Obviously Cal [Callum McGregor] and Carl [Starfelt] are still weeks away. There are always teams that go on cup runs, sometimes belying their league form.

"Cup competitions sometimes free teams up a bit and give them licence to be a bit more aggressive in their approach. From our perspective it's about playing our football because we know that when we play well, we're hard to stop."
