Jota Celtic brilliance dismissed with Rangers star selected as former striker's best player in SPFL

Celic's Jota might be setting the league alight with dazzling performance after dazzling performance - but Kris Boyd believes Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos is the SPFL Premiership's star man.

Former Celtic and Hibs midfielder Scott Allan suggested the Portuguese playmaker was the caviar in this nation's elite league in the build-up to Hibs v Hearts on Sky Sports, following three assists away to Ross County on Saturday. Ange Postecoglou's side ran out 3-1 winners thanks to Kyogo Furuhashi, Moritz Jenz and Liel Abada efforts.

Morelos meanwhile came off the bench for the first time in five months due to injury and scored the winner for Rangers in their 2-0 success over Kilmarnock. Allan started the top dog debate by saying: "For me he’s the best player in the league. His numbers last season were incredible." But Boyd is having none of it and reckons the best was witnessed off the bench at Ibrox.

He fired back with praise for Rangers' other goalscorer Antonio Colak: “Jota the best player in the league? I’m not too sure about that. Who would I go for? Let’s just say he came back and scored yesterday!”

“I’m pleased for Antonio Colak as well. He’s had a little bit of criticism as well in terms of not getting involved in the play but all good strikers get themselves in positions to score goals and that’s exactly what he did.

“And then you look at Alfredo Morelos. I’m sure people will be shouting for offside at the back post but he wasn’t and he managed to get himself in a position between the sticks and Rangers fans will be absolutely delighted to see him back."
