Joss Stone opens up on 'scary' birth of son a year after devastating miscarriage

Joss Stone has candidly opened up on the scary experience she had as she gave birth to her second child in October.

The singer, 35, and boyfriend Cody DaLuz were thrilled to welcome baby Shackleton last month a year after suffering a miscarriage. The pair also share 19-month-old daughter Violet.

However, Joss has revealed her labour was far from smooth sailing, explaining she was already in "massive amounts of pain" before she was told she'd have to have a c-section.

She was surprised by the news after saying she had prepared her whole life for a natural birth. However, in order to safely deliver their child, doctors made the decision to rush her to theatre.

Joss told PEOPLE Magazine : "[Shackleton's] heartbeat was at normal rate. And then all of a sudden, it just slowed down, massively slowed down. I thought, 'Oh, that's my baby. That's not good'."

Speaking about the nurse's actions in that moment, she continued: "She comes up to me and she goes, 'The room is going to fill up with a lot of people - Don't worry about it, just stay calm,' then Cody looks at me and he said the same thing.'

And in a scary turn of events, Joss revealed how the child's heart rate dropped again. "He was coming down the birth canal, and when my uterus split," she said. "His head went into my abdomen and he went back up... They had to bring him back to breathing again."

Doctors decided the best course of action was to put the singer to sleep and thankfully once she woke up, her baby son had been successfully brought into the world.

Shortly after the birth, she took to Instagram to introduce Shackleton to her followers while also praising the hospital staff who were on hand.

She wrote: "Doctors saved my life and saved his life, and they are amazing and we love you guys. So it all ended well and now we have our little man."

Dad Cody added: “I’m very grateful because I thought I was going to have to be a single dad. For about 20 minutes I thought I was going to be on my own with a couple of kids. It was pretty scary."

The incident comes almost a year after Joss suffered a devastating miscarriage.
