Josip Juranovic 'unless against Rangers' admission as ex-Celtic star reveals difference to Union role

Josip Juranovic insists Celtic dominated the ball in almost every game they played - except when they went toe-to-toe with rivals Rangers.

The Croatian is loving life at new club Union Berlin after pulling down the curtain on just over 18 months in Glasgow that saw the popular defender lift the Scottish Premiership and League Cup under Ange Postecoglou. But it was Juranovic's exploits with Croatia at the Qatar World Cup that truly turned heads around Europe with big hitters such as Chelsea and Barcelona reportedly keen.

The 27-year-old settled for the German capital and admits it was the right call for him to leave Celtic as he now has experience of playing in his homeland, Poland, Scotland and the Bundesliga. Juranovic concedes Postecoglou's side dominated possession when asked of the differences in standard except for the scenario of an Old Firm derby.

He said when quizzed on Croatia duty: "In Legia we had more possession and won the league, when I went to Celtic it was a similar situation with possession being around 90 per cent unless we played against Rangers.

"Now in Union we have a bit less of a possession, but we're compact as a team and we're working together [to win], we don't have one player who can finish the game [on his own].

"We need to work as a team and that's why we're where we are, being third in the league."

He added: "I chose the right club, from the first game things went well for me. I hope it stays that way in the future. We're playing well, we're third in the league. I don't have anything to complain about.

"I improved defensively, because we need to defend ourselves more, but those are small nuances. I've chosen a right league for myself.

"I wanted to improve, now I have opportunity to do so and I want to improve more."
