Josip Juranovic seals Celtic transfer exit as he claims Union Berlin switch 'fulfils my dream'

Josip Juranovic has completed his move away from Celtic after signing a deal with German outfit Union Berlin in a move that could eventually be worth up to £10 million for the Scottish Premiership champions.

The Croatia international full back’s future became the subject of intense speculation after he went to the Qatar World Cup with his country and he impressed as he helped them finish with the bronze medal. Juranovic had been linked with various clubs including Barcelona, Chelsea and Italian sides Monza and Torino but has penned a deal with the team currently sitting fifth in the Bundesliga.

The fee is reported to be £7.5 million plus add-ons and Postecoglou, in anticipation of Juranovic departing, signed Canada right back Alistair Johnston. Following his exit, Juranovic said: "The transfer to Union fulfils my dream of being able to play in one of the best football leagues in the world. The Bundesliga is intense and robust, which suits my game. I'm looking forward to playing in front of the fans at the Alte Forsterei soon. In Berlin, I want to improve even more and take the next step in my career."

Juranovic was signed from Legia Warsaw for £2.5 million in the summer of 2021 and netted five times as he helped Celtic lift the Scottish Premiership and League Cup double in Ange Postecoglou’s first season. The 27-year-old has been capped 27 times for his country and Postecoglou revealed before Celtic’s Scottish Cup clash with Morton that he had been given permission to travel to Germany.

Celtic said in a statement: "Josip Juranovic has joined the German Bundesliga outfit Union Berlin. The Croatian defender has moved to the German club having won both the league title and the League Cup in his first season with the Hoops and he followed that up by reaching the Qatar World Cup semi-final with his national side where they lost to eventual winners, Argentina. Everyone at the club wishes Josip all the best in his future career."
