Josh Windass admits his luck in semi-finals is the 'worst-ever' as he revisited some of his lowest moments at Rangers.
The Englishman is now fit and firing for a dominant Sheffield Wednesday side with 14 goals and seven assists to date including a memorable double in the FA Cup against English Premier League high-flyers Newcastle United which set the tone for a superb run of form.
The Owls are top of the English League One by two points and are unbeaten in five months with the 29-year-old playing a huge role in their plight to win a title for the first time in 64 years. But Darren Moore's men felt heartbreak in the play-off semi-final last season and Windass personally admits he has a rotten record in semi's that stretches back to his time in Glasgow.
The attacker lost two semi-finals in the same season to rivals Celtic, before losing again to the Hoops in the 2017/18 season and a shock defeat to Motherwell in the League Cup that campaign. But Windass is hopeful this time his rotten run of six semi-finals without a win in his career will end this year.
He said: “Everybody wants to win the league.
“We wanted to win it last year and obviously didn’t do it. This year we’re going to try to do our best to do so and hopefully we can keep that mentality and keep going because it’s far, far from over.”
He added: “I’ve got the worst luck ever in semi-finals. I think I’ve played in six lots of semi-finals and lost six, it’s not a good thing to have to admit.
“One play-off with Accy [Accrington Stanley], four semi-finals in Scotland and last year obviously, I played the second leg. It 100 per cent gives me more fire in the belly.
"They’re one-off games really and though it’s not a very good record every time you get there you’re thinking ‘Right, this is my semi-final’. Let’s hope I don’t have that feeling and we don’t have a semi-final this year.”
