Josh Windass reckons Rangers and Michael Beale could miss the qualities of striker Alfredo Morelos over the course of the season.
The former Ibrox frontman left the club at the end of last season following six years in Glasgow, where he was a key figure for the likes of Steven Gerrard and Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
Morelos did however fall out of favour during his latter years at Rangers and as a result Beale was not keen to keep him as part of his squad.
Fitness and attitude concerns were part of the reason Morelos was moved on, and he is yet to find his next move this summer transfer window.
Former Rangers winger Windass, who is now with Sheffield Wednesday, played with Morelos under Gerrard and Pedro Caixinha, and he feels that the Colombian still has quality in front of goal.
He explained to Sky Bet: “He [Alfredo Morelos] scored a lot of goals, got a lot of red cards!
"He’s a good guy, doesn’t speak a lot of English but is quite a funny character in the changing room with his body language and the way he acts, he brightens up the room and makes training a good place to go to.
“I don’t think he’s got a club yet; I haven’t seen too much transfer activity but obviously he was there [at Rangers] quite a while now and was the club’s top European goal scorer, any team will miss a goal scorer who has moved on.
"Hopefully they have replaced him with the recruitment, but it’ll be interesting to see where Alfredo ends up.”
In terms of the title race this season, Windass believes both Celtic and Rangers are on a pretty even playing field.
He added: “When you look at both teams' recruitment, Celtic have a bit more money to spend [than Rangers] with the players that they bring in.
"They both have got very good managers, obviously Brendan Rodgers is a very good manager, and Mick [Michael] Beale - who I worked with when I was playing under Steven Gerrard at Rangers - he was his assistant.
“I watched the game where they [Rangers] knocked out Servette, now they have to beat PSV in the next round to get into the Champions League, so that will be a difficult task.
"Both are massive clubs, and both are competing to win the league every year, second is not good enough for either team.
"I hope they can have the best season they can, Celtic are very strong and have been for a few years now, so we’ll see, I wish them all the best.”
