It’s been a long time since a five-star recruit decided to head to Georgia Tech. That drought came to an end on Monday.
Roswell (Ga.) Fellowship Christian School five-star offensive tackle Josh Petty announced his commitment to the Yellow Jackets Monday. Petty chose Georgia Tech over Florida State, Ohio State, Stanford and Tennessee.
The 6-foot-4.5, 262-pounder is ranked as the No. 14 player in the country, the No. 2 offensive tackle and No. 4 player in the state of Georgia according to 247Sports.
Located just over 30 minutes outside of Atlanta, Petty’s pledge is a massive win Brent Key and his staff.
Last season Key saw plenty of playing time on both sides of the ball. On defense he recorded recorded 58 tackles, nine tackles for loss, five sacks, an interception and a fumble recovery.
Georgia Tech remained active in Petty’s recruitment
Georgia Tech was one of the first schools to get involved in Petty’s recruitment. He picked up an offer from the Yellow Jackets in January 2021.
Since that offer he’s visited campus multiple times. He visited for the first time in March of 2023.
This summer has seen Petty on the road frequently visiting each of the schools he named as finalists.
Florida State and Georgia Tech were the only two schools he visited in July. He was in Atlanta on July 27 and headed south to Tallahassee a day later.
