Rangers are considering terminating winger Josh McPake 's contract.
The 20-year-old academy graduate has spent the season on-loan at both Morecambe and Tranmere Rovers but the prospect of a fresh chance at Ibrox next term is understood to be unlikely.
Once considered a top prospect, he's made just 14 starts across the two spells and has fallen well out of favour at Prenton Park under former Dundee United manager Micky Mellon.
McPake was handed his Rangers first team debut by Steven Gerrard, who expressed high hopes for his future, but has been unable to cement a place in the senior setup.
The forward now looks set to depart and Rangers could be prepared to pay up the remainder of his deal, which still has two years to run, in order to cut ties.
Previous spells at Dundee, Harrogate Town and Greenock Morton total McPake's loan stints at five across just three seasons.
He managed only 61 appearances in that time and looks certain to be searching for a new club come the summer.
