Josh McPake set for Rangers exit as Ibrox club prepared to listen to summer offers for starlet

Rangers are set to consider offers for Josh McPake this summer.

The winger is currently on-loan at Tranmere Rovers but is struggling to get game time with the English League Two side.

It comes on the back of a frustrating spell at Morecambe earlier in the season that saw that loan terminated in January.

McPake has played just three minutes in the last six games under Micky Mellon and hasn’t kicked on the way he or Rangers would have hoped this season.

The 20-year-old still has two years left on his Ibrox contract but there doesn’t appear to be a pathway for him to push into Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s first-team squad.

Rangers are set to look at options again for McPake, whether that be a permanent move or another loan.

The winger has had a number of loan spells including time at Dundee and Morton although his biggest success came at Harrogate Town, where he lifted the English Football League trophy.

Former Dundee United boss Mellon raved about McPake after landing him on loan in January.

He said at the time: “We are pleased to get him in. We are pleased with what Rangers have said to us and I agree, he’s one of their best talents outside the first-team group.

“They want him among that. We will try and develop him like we do all the loan players that come here.

“He adds variety and a different type of threat in wide areas. We will need that as it’s nice to know you have different talents who can help you get a result.”
