Josh Jacobs is in a pretty good spot right now. Should the Raiders not re-sign him, he will head into free agency as the reigning rushing title holder at the age of 24. But does that mean it’s a foregone conclusion that he will hit the market?
There is, of course, the franchise tag, which is fairly inexpensive for the running back position. But don’t rule out the possibility of Jacobs being re-signed to a long term deal. But whether he agrees to whatever deal the Raiders have to offer will depend on what else the Raiders do to improve the team.
“If we get the right pieces, you know, obviously we got a quarterback situation right now,” Jacobs said in an interview with Jim Rome. “We got some guys that we need on defense and some guys up front, things like that, if we get the right situation, I wouldn’t mind coming back for less or anything like that. But it’s just gotta make sense.”
Hmm, if the Raiders get the right quarterback situation? What, or rather, who could Jacobs have in mind when he says that? There’s one obvious name that comes to mind — Aaron Rodgers.
This isn’t just reading tea leaves either. Jacobs was asked after the Pro Bowl if he would want Rodgers to come to Las Vegas.
“Of course. It’s ARod. You feel me, that’s Aaron Rodgers,” Jacobs said. He’s a dog. If he were to come over here, I feel like that would change the aspect of a lot of things.”
It kind of sounds like it would change the aspect of Jacobs’s decision-making as to whether he wants to return to the Raiders.
