Josh Giddey's double-double helps OKC blow past Suns

Australian guard Josh Giddey has posted his first double-double of the NBA season to help Oklahoma City to a 111-99 road win over Kevin Durant's Phoenix Suns.

Top-10 scorer Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (35 points) and Jalen Williams (31) led the way for the Thunder, who dominated the final period 31-13 to improve to a 5-4 record.

Durant (28 points) top-scored for Phoenix (4-5) but was the only player on his team to register more than 15 points.

Melbourne product Giddey recorded 44 double-doubles - plus eight triple-doubles - over his first two years in the league, but had yet to post one this season before facing the Suns.

He got there with 10 points and 10 assists, adding to his six rebounds, two blocks and one steal.

Fellow Australian Dyson Daniels had a career-high 17 points and nine rebounds for New Orleans but couldn't prevent his team losing 136-124 to the Dallas Mavericks.

Countrymen Josh Green (13 points) and Dante Exum (six) had the last laugh with the Mavs (8-2), who are tied with the Denver Nuggets on top of the Western Conference.

The Nuggets were on the receiving end as the Houston Rockets posted a sixth straight win.

Fred VanVleet top-scored with 26 points as Australian centre Jock Landale was restricted to just 2:19 on court in the Rockets' 107-104 victory.

Australian forward Matisse Thybulle scored a season-high 14 points and countryman Duop Reath got his first NBA minutes in Portland's loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Called up from the G League, Reath had 11 points, three rebounds and three assists on debut.

But the Lakers, who were without injured star LeBron James (calf), won 116-110 behind 30 points and 13 rebounds from Anthony Davis.

The Minnesota Timberwolves (6-2) kept pace with the West leaders as a 33-point haul from Anthony Edwards steered them to 116-110 win over Golden State - their fifth straight victory.

It came despite a game-high 38 points from Warriors star Steph Curry.

Tyrese Maxey scored a career-high 50 points as Eastern Conference leaders Philadelphia (8-1) registered an eighth consecutive victory with a 137-126 win over the Indiana Pacers.

Joel Embiid had 37 points and 13 rebounds for the 76ers, are off to their best nine-game start since a 10-0 opening in 2000-01 on their way to the NBA Finals.

The Los Angeles Clippers are winless after four games since James Harden was traded to the team, after falling 105-101 to the Memphis Grizzlies.

Desmond Bane scored 27 points for the Grizzlies, who improved to 2-8 while waiting for All-Star guard Ja Morant to return from a 25-game suspension next month.

Harden (11 points) hit a game-tying three-pointer with 1:33 left but missed another long-range attempt in the dying stages of the Clippers' loss.
