Josh Doig continues post Hibs success in Serie A but he's unable to prevent Verona losing at Lazio

Josh Doig landed his second 90 minutes on the trot for Hellas Verona as they lost out at Lazio.

The former Hibs star made the move to Italy's top flight as he followed in the footsteps of Aaron Hickey, Liam Henderson and Lewis Ferguson in experiencing a new adventure. Scotland and former Hearts star Hickey has since earned a mega-money English Premier League move to Brentford off the back of his form, something Doig will be out to replicate.

Doig grabbed his first goal for his new club last week on his maiden start for Gabriele Cioffi's side after two previous appearances from the bench. His strike against Sampdoria claimed three priceless points and made him the second Scottish player ever to score in the division with Verona after Joe Jordan. His form was rewarded once again as he played the entire match against Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico but was unable to prevent his side from suffering a defeat on the road.

Circo Immobile broke the deadlock with just over 20 minutes to play before the home side made sure of the points through Luis Alberto in the fifth minute of additional time at the end of the match.

Despite the defeat, Cioffi was proud of his players for the performance they put in. He said: "The attitude I saw tonight is the right one. We came here and managed to keep up with Lazio for a long time.

"We could have been more unpredictable in certain circumstances and played more in the first half, but this was certainly not a match simple to deal with.

"I believe that, match after match, the right attitude and spirit from Hellas is being built, which has always distinguished this team. This must give us the strength to continue our path towards our goal."
