Josh Dobbs to start for Cardinals vs. Browns in Week 9

Arizona Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon decided Sunday not to play any games with the situation at quarterback. Josh Dobbs will start for Arizona in Week 9 next week when they face the Cleveland Browns on the road.

Kyler Murray is close to a return but it will be delayed at least another week.

He was designated to return from the PUP (physically unable to perform) reserve on the Wednesday leading up to their Week 7 game against the Seattle Seahawks.

The Cardinals must activate Murray from PUP by Wednesday before their Week 10 game against the Atlanta Falcons.

Last weekend, it was reported that Murray would make his return either in Week 9 or Week 10. Gannon would not commit to Murray in Week 10, saying the situation is “day-to-day.”

Dobbs threw two interceptions in the Cardinals’ loss to the Ravens on Sunday but was not benched in favor of rookie Clayton Tune.

“I have complete confidence in him and I thought he would give us the best chance to get back in the game,” Gannon said after the game. The Cardinals would rally to get back into the game.

Dobbs will get to start against the Browns next week. He played for them last season and re-signed with them in the offseason before the Cardinals traded for him after the preseason.

The Cardinals are 1-7 with Dobbs as a starter. He has thrown eight touchdown passes and five interceptions.
