The Arizona Cardinals have made a decision about a starting quarterback in their season opener against the Washington Commanders. While head coach Jonathan Gannon refuses to say it, the report has come out, and it wasn’t really a secret.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday that the Cardinals are expected to start recently acquired quarterback Josh Dobbs at quarterback in Week 1.

Things could change in future weeks until Kyler Murray’s return from PUP, where he must be for at least the first four games of the season, but Dobbs will get the nod this week.
Dobbs was acquired from the Cleveland Browns the weekend before final roster cutdowns along with a seventh-round pick for a fifth-round selection.
He knows the Cardinals’ offensive system as their offensive coordinator is Drew Petzing, who was the Browns’ quarterbacks coach last season.
Multiple local reporters have said that the Cardinals have planned on using Dobbs as the starter. Gannon has said the team had a plan and everyone in the building knew it but told reporters they would not announce it.
Dobbs has been in the league since 2017 but has only played in eight games, starting two last season late in the year for the Tennessee Titans.
