Josh Campbell reveals Hibernian disappointment after dramatic draw with Rangers

Hibernian's Josh Campbell celebrates scoring his sides second goal to level the score at 2-2 during the cinch Premiership match at Easter Road

JOSH CAMPBELL was disappointed Hibernian couldn't snatch a late winner against Rangers after ensuring it ended all-square at Easter Road.

The 22-year-old netted a dramatic injury-time equaliser to earn Lee Johnson's side a battling draw as they twice came from behind to deny the Light Blues.

Martin Boyle cancelled out James Tavernier's penalty with a neat near-post finish just after the break but Tom Lawrence's header handed Rangers the lead just minutes later.

Two quickfire red cards would shift the momentum, though, as John Lundstram and Alfredo Morelos were dismissed by referee Willie Collum on a controversial afternoon in the Capital.

Hibernian piled forward in the closing stages and got their rewards when Campbell produced a moment of magic to beat Jon McLaughlin from distance.

Rangers were able to see out the final seconds to salvage a point and limit the damage as they stumbled for the first time in the Premiership title race this term.

Campbell said: “It was crazy. I was a bit disappointed with my teammates falling on top of me to be honest because I wanted to go for the winner.

“Obviously it’s a very good result for us against a very good side.

“I actually didn’t catch the shot that cleanly, it came off a bit slicey. I was just happy to see it hit the back of the net. That’s definitely two for the season for me.

“It’s very hard playing against nine men. Teams just sit in when that happens and Rangers are very good at that.

“They are used to that with their European nights. We could feel the momentum building, it was building from the fans.

“We were very disappointed to go in behind at the break and we spoke about that at half-time. We came out second half and got a goal straight away.”
