Josh Allen breaks silence with cryptic tweet amid OTA absence

Edge rusher Josh Allen is one of the only Jacksonville Jaguars players who hasn’t made an appearance during organized team activities this offseason. While the practices are voluntary at this point and Jaguars coach Doug Pederson previously shrugged off Allen’s absence, the whereabouts of the three-time team captain has generated some chatter.

Allen seemingly addressed that talk Friday with a cryptic tweet:

He then retweeted a nearly three-year-old tweet about the pride he takes in being a member of the Jaguars:

Allen is entering the final season of his rookie contract after the Jaguars picked up the fifth-year option on the deal last year. With free agency less than a year away, the hope for a new contract could explain his choice not to attend OTAs.

In four seasons with the Jaguars, Allen has recorded 27.5 sacks. While he hasn’t recorded double-digit sacks since his rookie year, Allen has led the team in sacks in three of the last four seasons and each of the last two years.

Based on his production and age (he will turn 26 next month), Spotrac estimates that Allen’s market value is about $15.3 million per year. He’s due to make $10.892 million on the fifth-year option in 2023.
