'Josh Adams should have been arrested!' Stunning claim made live on air amid Irish fury

An Irish pundit has made the bizarre claim that Josh Adams should have been arrested for his yellow card offence during Saturday’s Six Nations opener in Dublin.

Wales centre Adams was sin-binned for leading with his shoulder in a collision with Ireland fly-half Johnny Sexton in the second half of the Aviva Stadium clash.

The home side scored two tries while the Lions Test wing was off the field, as they went on to win 29-7.

Now the incident has been discussed on the Off The Ball show in Ireland, where journalist Liam Toland has made his jaw-dropping statement.

“I would say that Josh Adams should have been arrested for what he did, not yellow carded,” said Toland.

“He should have been arrested and taken off the pitch because that was the cheapest of cheap shots.

“I know a slowed down camera frame makes it look worse, but Adams showed no interest in that ball and took out a player.

“Like that’s an arrestable offence.”

Irish Times rugby correspondent Gerry Thornley also gave his views on the incident in the show.

“Only he (Adams) knows what he was thinking,” he said.

“But it sure as hell looked like ‘Oh, look, it’s Johnny Sexton in my vision, here’s a chance’.

“That’s always been in the game, go after the out-half and maybe he thought that, I don’t know.

“But it was quite dim-witted in lots of respects and it was also dangerous.

“It was a cheap shot, I agree. It was also a huge moment in the match.

“Wales had a penalty to go up the line into the corner. By the time he came back on, Ireland had scored two more tries and the game was over.

“So I think it was a bizarre incident. There was no attempt to play the ball. He just saw Johnny Sexton and for some reason dipped his shoulder and clattered into him.”
