Jose Mourinho takes fresh dig at Daniel Levy with brutal Tottenham verdict after Arne Slot blow

Jose Mourinho sent a damning message to Daniel Levy and Tottenham fans on the same day that the club were informed by Arne Slot that he would not be taking over as the new manager.

In what has been a damaging two months for Spurs, Levy and ENIC Group since making the decision to sack Antonio Conte midway through the season, Mourinho's latest comments only go to further add insult to injury. The former boss was speaking ahead of Roma's crucial match in the race for the top four in Italy but still had time to call out his previous employers.

It wasn't the first unwanted message for supporters either. Having been favourite to take over in north London, Feyenoord head coach Slot dispelled rumours of his move to England. "I have been hearing a lot of rumours going around about other clubs' interest in me," he said.

"Although I am thankful, my wish is to stay at Feyenoord and continue working on what we created last year.

"There is not - and there has not been - transfer conversation and yesterday’s meeting was exclusively for an extension. All talks with the club have always been only in that sense. I'm looking forward to next season with Feyenoord."

It has been suggested that Slot took advantage of the public updates on his potential move to Spurs in order to leverage himself a new deal in Holland after winning Eredivisie. For Spurs they insist that talks were not as far along as had been reported as both sides attempt to save face.

Mourinho, however, took an aggressive line towards Levy and the club, revealing no lost love between the two parties. "I hope the Tottenham fans don't get me wrong but the only club in my career where I don't still have a big feeling, is Tottenham," he started.

"Probably because the stadium is empty, Covid time. Probably because Mr Levy didn't let me win a final, win the trophy. That is the only one. After that, Porto, Chelsea, Inter, Real Madrid, Manchester United. All the clubs I feel a connection."

He added: "Maybe you cannot love every club. Yes, I love every club, I love every club because I always felt the other way around they also love me. So with Roma, one day will be hard, it will be hard, it will be hard but we will be connected forever like I am with all my previous clubs apart from Mr Levy's club."

Whilst rival fans have mocked Tottenham for being called out by Mourinho in a fashion that only he could, it is another piece of unwanted attention for Levy who has already seen his managerial search hit several troughs. To make matters worse, speculation over the future of Harry Kane continues to linger on and the club's lap of the pitch following defeat to Brentford proved a catastrophe.

It all points towards yet another big summer for the chairman, especially with early reactions to fresh head coach candidates - Brendan Rodgers and Ange Postecoglou - being far from unanimously positive.
