Jose Mourinho snubs meeting fans after one launches a snowball at him

Roma manager Jose Mourinho walked away from a meeting with fans ahead of Roma's Europa Conference League quarter-final after one threw a snowball in his direction.

The former Manchester United and Chelsea boss was returning to the scene of his heaviest defeat of the season, with the Giallorossi drawn against Bodo/Glimt once more. The Norwegian side won 6-1 when the teams met in the group stage, prompting a confrontation between visiting striker Tammy Abraham and his own club's supporters.

“Every defeat does damage," Mourinho told journalists after the earlier loss in Norway, with Roma eventually recovering to reach the knockout stages. "I spoke to the players and was honest. I was honest with them, I cannot be honest with you."

Journalist Truls Naas shared a video of the incident with a caption saying "Welcome to Bodø, Jose". In the clip, you can see the manager approaching a group of youngsters at the side of a football pitch.

Mourinho begins walking in the direction of the group. However, after the snowball comes into shot, he turns to his left and begins remonstrating with someone out of shot.

In the clip, you can hear fans calling out to the 59-year-old. Those who had waited for photo opportunities were left disappointed, though, with the manager failing to see the funny side.

Erik Botheim and Ola Solbakken both scored twice for Bodo/Glimt in their 6-1 win over Roma in October. Patrick Berg and Amahl Pellegrino were also on target for the hosts, with Carles Perez scoring Roma's goal.

The return fixture ended all square at the Stadio Olimpico, with Roger Ibanez rescuing a 2-2 draw for Mourinho's men. However, despite the Norwegians ending the group stage unbeaten, Roma finished a point clear of Kjetil Knutsen's team.

That meant Bodo/Glimt needed an extra play-off round to book their place in the last 16. However, after beating Celtic home and away, they joined their rivals in the main knockout draw.

Both teams reached the quarter-finals after narrow wins in the last 16. Roma beat Vitesse 2-1 on aggregate, with Abraham scoring a last-gasp winner, while Bodo/Glimt needed extra-time to get past AZ.

Leicester City are the only British team left in the competition after eliminating Rennes in the last 16. Their quarter-final tie sees them up against PSV Eindhoven, while the other two games see Feyenoord take on Slavia Prague and Marseille to battle with PAOK.

Mourinho's former side Tottenham Hotspur were eliminated from the competition before the turn of the year after failing to fulfil their final group fixture. A Covid outbreak meant they were unable to field a team against Rennes, and the game was awarded as a 3-0 victory for the French side.
