Jose Mourinho slapped with ban and massive fine as Roma boss hammered for telling referee 'Juventus sent you'

Roma boss Jose Mourinho has been slapped with a two-match ban and fined nearly £17,000 after accusing a referee of being 'sent' by Juventus.

The former Chelsea and Manchester United boss has struggled on his return to Serie A, with just two wins in their last eight league matches.

The Giallorossi came from two goals down to draw with Verona on Saturday, but the Special One was sent to the stands after venting his fury at referee Luca Pairetto.

It was reported in Italy that Mourinho had told the official " Juventus sent you" after being unimpressed with his decisions in the match.

And the Lega Serie A has now handed down a two game ban and €20,000 (£16,690) fine while explaining the reasoning for the decision.

Mourinho was found guilty of: "directing serious insinuations against the match referee as well as for, at the moment of his dismissal, entering the field of play in a threatening way to question the decision of the official and, finally, at the end of the game in the tunnel that leads to the dressing rooms, repeating the aforementioned insinuations directed at the match official."

The Portuguese has a history of controversial comments about referees, claiming in his first spell at Chelsea that referee Anders Frisk had visited the Barcelona dressing room.

His attitude to officials has even sparked an internet meme, based on an interview in which he declared "I prefer not to speak" about referees because "if I speak I am in big trouble".
