Jose Mourinho resigned to striker exit amid Manchester United transfer links as demands made

Roma manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly demanding a replacement for striker Tammy Abraham arrives this summer amid alleged interest from Manchester United.

Returns to former clubs Aston Villa, where he previously spent a successful Championship promotion-winning season on loan, and Chelsea, whose €80 million buyback option becomes active in July, are also rumoured. United have reportedly scouted the striker several times this season.

The Manchester Evening News understands manager Erik ten Hag is prioritising signing a goalscorer this summer. Abraham scored 27 goals during his debut campaign in Italy but has only been able to add seven since then.

Sky Sports in Italy reports Abraham's destiny lies in England this summer after two years away. Seemingly accepting the inevitable, Mourinho is now seeking a more experienced and complete centre-forward to replace the 25-year-old.

Various reports in England have suggested United would view Abraham as a backup option should main targets, Napoli's Victor Osimhen and Harry Kane at Tottenham Hotspur, become unavailable.

Before then, United may have the opportunity to watch the Roma forward in the flesh should both clubs continue progressing in the Europa League. Mourinho's side are on the opposite of the draw to his former employers, meaning there is the possibility of meeting in Budapest for the final.
