Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho has admitted to facing “difficult moments” on the pitch but insists his team’s resilience has been key to their ongoing unbeaten run, as he responds to recent controversy following a heated derby against Galatasaray.
Mourinho was issued a suspension and fined by the Turkish football authorities after comments made in the aftermath of Fenerbahce’s 0-0 draw with Galatasaray on February 24.
The Istanbul rivals clashed in a tense encounter, after which Galatasaray accused Mourinho of making “racist statements.”
The legendary Portuguese coach has firmly denied these claims and has filed a lawsuit against the club.
Speaking to the media ahead of Fenerbahce’s Europa League Round of 16 first leg against Rangers, Mourinho acknowledged that challenges exist within the game but dismissed any suggestion of difficulties beyond the pitch.

Fenerbahce are second in the Turkish Super Lig and currently on an impressive 18-match unbeaten run across all competitions, which began after their 2-0 Europa League league-phase loss to Athletic Club on December 11.
“On the pitch there have been difficult moments,” the two-time Champions League winner confessed.
“We always respect our opponents, so yes we've had problems on the pitch.
“The reason why we are 18 matches unbeaten is because we faced the difficult moments with courage, humility and with a good spirit.
“Outside of the pitch, I don't think we have had a difficult moment.”
