Jose Mourinho next Rangers manager verdict delivered

'Absolutely explosive' is how Pat Nevin would describe the prospect of Jose Mourinho becoming the next manager of Rangers.

The Special One was last week defeated by Rangers over the two legs of their Europa League tie with Fenerbahce.

Barry Ferguson's men - defeated 2-0 on the night by the Turkish outfit - prevailed on penalties, as Mourinho and his team exited the competition.

Ferguson is in interim charge until the end of the season, with Rangers' US takeover deal set to happen first before a permanent managerial appointment is made.

The club legend has done himself no harm by helping the club to reach the quarter-finals of the Europa League, as well as defeating Celtic 3-2 on their own patch.

That hasn't stopped speculation linking Rangers with the likes of Steven Gerrard, Rafa Benitez and of course Mourinho, though.

With Mourinho refusing to rule out the possibility of managing in Scotland in the future, his high praise for the club post-match has raised more than a few eyebrows about the potential of it becoming a reality.

"The Rangers job as a mad outsider of Jose Mourinho?" Nevin said when speaking to CasinoHawks. "As a Glaswegian myself, it's like having a warehouse full of the biggest fireworks display you've ever had and there's been no rain for five years and you're walking about with a big flaming torch if you put Jose in there.

"It will be absolutely explosive. Now he's used to it, all that madness he can deal with it.

"Just for the pure fun of it, I think it would be incredible to see it.

"Would he be the best long-term thing for Rangers? No, of course not.

"But it would be entertaining and might he win it one year? You never know."
