Jose Mourinho makes Liverpool claim after scathing PSG vs Real Madrid assessment

Roma boss Jose Mourinho gave a damning verdict on Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League match against Real Madrid while also giving an assessment on Liverpool's win at Inter.

Mourinho’s side are in this season’s UEFA Europa Conference League but were not in action this week as they have already guaranteed their place in the last 16 of the competition.

Roma won their group despite several unconvincing performances including a humiliating 6-1 defeat by Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt – the worst defeat of Mourinho’s managerial career.

Yet the Italian side pipped the champions of Norway to the top spot in the group by one point meaning that they did not have to play the playoff round for a place in the knockouts.

Mourinho claimed that he no longer watches many big matches that his side are not involved in although he did pass comment on the matches in Paris and Milan.

The Portuguese boss was not impressed by the match in Paris, in which Lionel Messi missed a penalty for the hosts but Kylian Mbappe grabbed a dramatic last-minute winner.

Inter – Mourinho’s former club, with whom he won the competition in 2010 – were on top for long stages against Liverpool, but goals from Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah gave a two-goal victory to Jurgen Klopp’s sides.

Mourinho insisted he has no regrets about no longer managing in Europe’s premier club competition.

“I am privileged, I’ve taken charge of more than 150 Champions League games, so I don’t complain now that we play in the Conference League,” Mourinho insisted during his press conference on Friday.

“I feel no nostalgia, I didn’t see big games.

“I didn’t like the match between PSG and Real Madrid.

“I thought the match between Inter and Liverpool was nice.”

Mourinho also commented on the progress of Tammy Abraham in the Italian capital having joined from Chelsea last summer.

Abraham has found the net 18 times in 33 appearances for the Giallorossi, but Mourinho insists there is more to come from the England international.

“He is doing well but can do even better,” Mourinho added.

“The team needs him to do better. He is a foreign player accustomed to a different kind of football. It’s not easy to leave England, but he is doing well but I believe he has the potential to do even more.”

Roma are currently languishing in seventh spot in Serie A and outside the qualification places for European football next season.
