Jose Mourinho makes feelings clear as Man Utd and Arsenal plot Tammy Abraham transfer

Jose Mourinho is desperate to keep Tammy Abraham at Roma, despite strong interest from the Premier League.

Abraham was one of Mourinho's first signings for the Italian side, joining from Chelsea for €40m. The 24-year-old hit the ground running for the Giallorossi, top-scoring with 17 goals in Serie A and 27 in all competitions as Roma won the Europa Conference League.

His form in Italy saw the former Blues man called up to Gareth Southgate's England squad for the June internationals, while Manchester United and Arsena are reportedly ready to test his current team's resolve in the transfer market. However, Mourinho's stance could prove the biggest obstacle.

According to Corriere Dello Sport (via Football Italia ), Mourinho considers Abraham to be unsellable. Still, both United and Arsenal have reportedly entered the mix for a man who scored 21 goals in 58 Premier League appearances as a Chelsea player.

Abraham himself is not thought to be in any hurry to leave the Stadio Olimpico, so the Premier League sides may have to turn their attention to other targets. However, Chelsea's buy-back option will be activated a year from now if they want to bring the academy product back to West London.

Arsenal have been strongly linked with Gabriel Jesus as they attempt to strengthen their attacking options after Alexandre Lacazette's options. United's moves in the market, meanwhile, may depend on whether Cristiano Ronaldo remains at Old Trafford.

Back in May, Abraham was quizzed on his future amid interest from Arsenal among others. The Gunners have kept hold of academy talent Eddie Nketiah, but have lost both Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in 2022.

“I love this club,” Abraham told DAZN at the time (as published by Football Italia ). "They’ve given me the opportunity to show myself, my heart is here. We’ll see what the future holds, but my heart is here.”

Roma finished sixth under Mourinho as the former Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur boss embarked on his first season in the Italian capital. However, they will hope to kick on next term after winning their first trophy in more than a decade.

Roma have already added to their squad ahead of the 2022-23 season, bringing in former United midfielder Nemanja Matic. The Serbian is playing under Mourinho for a third time, having won the Premier League under the former Porto boss at Chelsea and following him to Old Trafford in 2017.

Roma is a big club, with amazing fans and a coach, Jose Mourinho, who is well known to everyone – making the decision to come here very straightforward," Matic said. "I hope that by working together we are able to achieve some great things."
