Jose Mourinho has been handed a two-match suspension after his furious outburst during Roma's shock 2-1 loss to struggling Cremonese on Tuesday night.
The 60-year-old was sent off for the third time this season following a feisty altercation with the officials as his side fell to a damaging defeat in Lombardy. Mourinho was previously dismissed against Atalanta and Torino earlier in the campaign, before being given yet another red card in the game at the Stadio Giovanni Zini.
Having seen his side struggle against the Serie A minnows, Mourinho was spotted arguing with the fourth official during the game - and that resulted in him being sent off. The ex-Chelsea and Manchester United boss was evidently frustrated on the touchline and he continued to express his anger in his press conference.
However, Mourinho has been banned for two matches, starting with Sunday's crucial clash with Juventus at the Stadio Olimpico. Mourinho, who has been handed a €10,000 fine for his actions, is also set to miss their match against Sassuolo on March 12.
A statement from Serie A stated that Mourinho faces sanctions: "For having contested a refereeing decision in a forceful and provocative manner in the second minute of the second half and repeating this behaviour at the time of sending off.
"Furthermore, for entering the referees’ dressing room and addressing the fourth official with offensive expressions and inferences at the end of the match."
Speaking in his his post-match interview Mourinho said: "I am emotional, but not crazy. In order to react the way I did, something had to happen first. I need to understand if I can take any legal action.
"Piccinini gave me a red card, because unfortunately the fourth official does not have the capacity to understand what he said to me. I want to find out if there is an audio recording.
"I don’t want to get into the fact that Serra is from Turin and on Sunday we are playing against Juventus. For the first time in my career, a fourth official spoke to me in the most incredible way. It was unjustifiable.
"At the end of the game, I went to speak to them. Piccinini, who was the fourth official in the last game when I was sent off, told me to apologise to Serra. I told Serra he should have the courage to explain what happened, but he had memory problems."
Following the incident, new footage has emerged of fourth official Marco Serra appearing to tell Mourinho to "go home" and saying "everyone is taking the p*** out of you" after he was sent off. The video does not have any audio, but can be visibly seen that Serra is firing back at Mourinho following the latter's outburst.
Meanwhile, the narrow defeat to Cremonese leaves Roma in fifth in the Serie A table and just one point off the Champions League places ahead of their clash with Juventus. The capital side had won their last two matches going into the trip to the bottom club, having also reached the last 16 of the Europa League.
