Jose Mourinho identified problems which haven't yet been solved, after Tottenham's 2019/20 season defeat to Wolves, during the filming of the All or Nothing documentary.
Antonio Conte has suffered three Premier League defeats in a row with Spurs, after his side failed to have a positive reaction to a 2-0 defeat by Chelsea and a 3-2 loss against Southampton, losing 2-0 to Wolves on Sunday.
There were a number of defensive errors in the game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and questions are now being raised around certain players with consecutive poor performances.
The two defeats leave the Lilywhites five points off fourth-placed West Ham and with three games in hand, ahead of a trio of Premier League away games to come.
In Sunday's tie Spurs had 59% per cent possession and 17 shots, with both sides having seven on target, but Tottenham failed to get any in the back of the net.
After the game, Conte gave his verdict on the performance.
"For sure there are many aspects to improve," he explained in his post match press conference. "It's difficult today to speak about the game because for me in my opinion the game was good, the performance was also good.
"We created many chances against a team with the second best defence after Man City. Despite this we created many chances to score, we had the possession.
"But we are talking about a 2-0 defeat against Wolverhampton and for sure we have to improve and to live with a lack of confidence," Conte added.
In the 2019/20 season and when Tottenham's All or Nothing documentary was being filmed, the Lilywhites lost 3-2 to Wolves in a home league fixture and Mourinho had no issue giving his honest verdict of the match.
"At half time, we had 65% of the ball and I was asking, why did we lose this game? And our conclusion was only one - we are too good guys," he explained in his post match team talk.
"The first action of the game, Lucas [Moura] goes and Ruben Neves comes in 'thrap', first minute of the game. They make a foul to stop a transition.
"Last minute, [Leander] Dendoncker come to the game and the guy 'raa', the ball doesn't go again.
"We lost the game because we couldn't make a foul, to stop transitions. The goals were all transitions and you have to be nasty. You have to be aggressive. You need to be clever. You need to make the foul," he added.
"I think you have a very bad feeling now as I have. How can we lose this game? We played well. But football is what it is."
Much like Conte, Mourinho explained that it wasn't necessarily the performance that was bad and he even praised his players for their individual performances.
However the former Spurs boss admitted it's "not about being happy with your individual performance, it's about being happy with result and we lost".
The issue that the Portuguese head coach identified and that is still a problem under Conte is the apparent lack of fight and aggression from a number of the players on the pitch.
Out of the starting XI, only Cristian Romero had a passing accuracy over 90% and there seemed to be a lack of energy and desire from a number of the players.
However, the Spurs boss admitted the harsh reality of the struggles his side still face.
"But I repeat these players are very good," he explained. "The commitment is very high every day in the training sessions, and also in the game because I can't speak about a bad commitment. They pushed until the end and I’m proud of this.
"But there are many aspects if you want to be competitive to fight for important positions you have to consider. We have a long path in front of us to follow."
The commitment he said he has got from his players on and off the pitch is not enough to get results and much needed points from games.
This aggression and fight which Mourinho alluded to, as well as some potential extra quality will help Tottenham make this step-up.
After the defeat to Wolves under the Portuguese head coach, Spurs lost their next game on penalties, in an FA Cup tie against Norwich.
Conte has the week to prepare his side for a trip to play Man City and he will need them to work as hard as possible to get through the final few months of the season and finish in the best position they can.
