Everton are reportedly monitoring Jose Mourinho's situation at Roma as they look to replace the recently sacked Rafa Benitez.
The former Liverpool boss was an extremely unpopular figure at Goodison Park - for obvious reasons - so the decision to appoint him in the summer left many baffled.
But an average of just 1.44 points per game after 22 matches, with the club sat just six points above the relegation zone, left the board with little other recourse.
Now, as relayed by our colleagues at the Liverpool Echo, reports have suggested that Everton are keeping an eye on Mourinho at Roma after failing with an approach for former manager, Roberto Martinez.
Owner Farhad Moshiri is thought to be an admirer of the Portuguese boss, who has spent much of his managerial career at the top clubs in Europe, including Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.
The question is, would Mourinho be willing to manage Everton?
Well, if his previous comments are anything to go by, you can picture it happening.
“I managed against [Roberto] Martinez’s Everton, [David] Moyes’ Everton and it is always difficult,” said Mourinho, then manager of United.
“It is always beautiful with a great crowd and a great stadium which is historical for my country as Eusebio scored four goals in one match there during the World Cup in ’66.
“I had so many great matches there. Some I lost, some I won, but always a great match.”
It would be a shock if he switched Rome for Merseyside in the coming weeks, but if Mourinho fancies yet another go at achieving something in English football, then we can't rule it out just yet.
