Jose Mourinho eager to see old friend Carlo Ancelotti lead Real Madrid to Champions League win over Liverpool

Jose Mourinho has sent his backing to Carlo Ancelotti ahead of Real Madrid’s Champions League final meeting with Liverpool later this month.

The Roma manager, who invoked the ire of Liverpool supporters on more than one occasion during his time as Chelsea manager, was speaking after his side beat Leicester to progress into the final of the Europa Conference League.

A two-time winner of the club game’s grandest prize, Mourinho endured a difficult end to his time in Madrid, leaving under a cloud in 2013 just a year after breaking Pep Guardiola’s La Liga dominance with Barcelona.

Still, the 59-year-old has spoken of his respect for Ancelotti, who will be making his record-breaking fifth appearance in a Champions League final after a thrilling campaign.

Despite scares against Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Manchester City, Madrid have pulled through and could finish the season having won a league title and a 14th European Cup.

“If you allow me a message for a coach who is my friend, the great Carletto, let’s both go and win the Finals,” he told Sky Sport Italia.
