Jose Mourinho and Granit Xhaka have already communicated as Roma plot Arsenal transfer raid

Granit Xhaka and Jose Mourinho have already been in contact this season as Arsenal ready themselves for another approach from Roma for the midfielder this summer.

football.london understands the Italian giants will come back in for the Switzerland international at the end of the season having failed to tempt him to the Stadio Olimpico last summer.

Xhaka looked all set to leave the Emirates at the end of the 2020-21 campaign as Mikel Arteta looked to overhaul his Gunners squad.

But an impressive display at Euro 2020, that saw Switzerland beat favourites France to reach the quarter finals, tempted the club into offering him a new one-year extension until 2024.

Mourinho took over the reins in Roma at the start of the season and has set his sights on Xhaka once again.

The Portuguese has not been shy when it has come to raiding the Premier League for talent, bringing in Tammy Abraham from Chelsea and Arsenal midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles on loan.

Roma currently sit in seventh place in what has been an inconsistent season, although Abraham has impressed, scoring 10 Serie A goals in 23 appearances.

Xhaka and Mourinho are no strangers to each other either ahead of the summer window.

The duo previously interacted during the September international break after the Swiss FA revealed that the player had opted against getting the coronavirus vaccine after testing positive ahead of a clash with Greece.

Mourinho subsequently urged Xhaka to get the jab after he posted a status to Instagram expressing his excitement at joining back up with the national team.

"Get the jab Granit and be safe," the 59-year-old wrote from his official account in the comments.

Xhaka then replied: "Thank you mister."

While some managers, such as Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel, have sat on the fence over the topic of player vaccinations, Mourinho made his stance incredibly clear.

How this could affect any future deal remains to be seen. Could the desire for vaccinations from the Roma's boss eventually put Xhaka off a move?
