Rangers are "close to" sealing a move to Los Angeles FC star Jose Cifuentes, according to a report.
The 24–year-old is heading into the final year of his LAFC contract and is being chased by a clutch of clubs in Europe - however an article in Ecuador claims that a move to the Scottish Premiership is rapidly nearing completion. Cifuentes has turned heads in the Major League Soccer and now appears primed to take the next step in his career this summer before his deal runs out in November at the end of the American league season.
South American transfer specialist Andres Ponce has told Radio Diblu that Rangers are on the brink of sealing a deal for the Ecuador international. However, the Light Blues could face competition to get the deal for the midfielder over the line with Ligue 1 Toulouse also making their interest known to LAFC and the player's representatives.
LAFC co-president and general manager John Thorrington has previously stated that he does not want to see the 24-year-old leave as a free agent and run down his deal - admitting every offer would be "evaluated". Cifuentes has also stated it is his "wish" to play in Europe and is "something I dreamed of as a child."
Michael Beale is in the midst of a massive rebuild at Ibrox with the end of the league campaign rapidly approaching, and appears to be focussing on players in the UK with the likes of Jack Butland, Kieran Dowell and Dujon Sterling on the agenda for the boss. The likes of Aris’s Honduran winger Luis Palma has been heavily linked with Rangers but Record Sport understands he is not on Beale’s radar – showing his concentration is on the British market at this stage.
Ibrox sources also initially played down a move for Cifuentes. However, reports overseas are adamant that a deal is almost over the line.
