Jorge Masvidal Confirms UFC Comeback In April 2025

Jorge Masvidal has confirmed that he will be returning to the UFC in April 2025 but an opponent is yet to be announced.

Jorge Masvidal Confirms UFC Comeback In April 2025

The MMA star revealed that he will end his two-year absence from the sport in April 2025, with the 40-year-old last fighting at UFC 287 in April 2023.

Gamebred is one of the most popular fighters in the world, but was defeated convincingly via unanimous decision to Gilbert Burns and claimed to have retired right after the bout.

On a recent episode of Jake Shields’ Fight Back podcast, Masvidal confirmed that he will be making his UFC comeback in Miami – but has not been handed an opponent just yet.

Masvidal said (Via Jake Shields’ Fight Back podcast): “I’ll be back in April next year in the UFC, we don’t have the opponent yet, hopefully by December we’ve got the opponent and April, Miami card.”

The MMA veteran is currently on a four-fight losing streak in the UFC, after suffering consecutive defeats to Kamaru Usman, a grudge match loss to Colby Covington and the previously mentioned defeat to Burns.

Defeat to Covington would have impacted Masvidal the most, with the two being previous training partners and close friends before a vicious rivalry formed.

However, the 25-minute war was not enough for Masvidal as he decided to attack Covington outside of a Miami steakhouse a few weeks after the initial bout.

Masvidal was charged with aggravated battery/great bodily harm and criminal mischief before pleading guilty to a misdemeanour batter charge to have two more charges dropped.

This highlighted a fall in grace for Masvidal who holds the quickest knockout in UFC history, beating Ben Askren in five seconds with a devastating flying-knee.

After this, Masvidal was drafted in to replace Burns in the main event against Kamaru Usman and 1.3 million fans purchased the PPV to watch Gamebred lose to Usman in a rather boring contest.

Usman would go on to win the rematch with a decisive knockout, becoming the first person to stop Gamebred in the UFC and Masvidal’s stock continued to drop from that point onwards.

His most recent activity in the world of fighting came in the boxing ring, as the 40-year-old lost to Nate Diaz via majority decision.

An opponent for Masvidal has not been selected, however, a rivalry with Leon Edwards has been brewing for some time after Gamebred attacked the British fighter backstage at a UFC Fight Night in 2019.

This could make a fight between the two a tempting option, as Edwards is coming off a defeat to Belal Muhammad – losing his welterweight title in the process.
