Jorge Masvidal claims YouTube star Jake Paul ignored offer to fight in UFC

Jorge Masvidal claims Jake Paul turned down a legitimate offer to make a fight between the pair in the UFC.

Paul and Masvidal have been going back and forth over the past few months, with the YouTube star offering his MMA rival a crossover boxing match for $5million.

But Masvidal was uninterested, and now claims that he and his team came back to Paul with a one-fight deal offer to have the bout happen in the octagon.

Paul has previously indicated that he would be willing to cross over to the cage, but likely wouldn't want to take on a veteran who has twice fought for a world title.

And Masvidal said he laughed off the prospect of a boxing match, noting how he has the superior drawing power on pay-per-view.

"Why the f*** would I fight Jake Paul in boxing?" Masvidal asked DAZN News. "Look at his last pay-per-view [his rematch with Tyron Woodley].

"It generated little buys - my fights generate fantastic numbers. His, not so much."

And Masvidal believes that the offer of $5m for a fight, which would have included PPV points and a ceiling that could hit eight figures, was not enough.

Masvidal, who faces Colby Covington on Saturday, is one of the biggest stars in MMA at the moment, and says that he makes considerably more than that for fights within his own discipline.

"He offered me $5m to come to box him. I make more than that in the UFC, so why would I go fight him for that? He's got no money to offer me," he added.

"After that horrible offer, me and my team made him and his team an offer to come fight me in the UFC.

"A one-fight deal in the UFC. I beat his a**, humble him so bad that he never fights in boxing ever again."

Paul's initial offer to join the UFC would have seen him fight for a lowly $50,000, which he believes should be the minimum payout for a fighter on one of their cards.

That minimum is currently $12,000, which Paul believes to be unacceptable given fighters lack of other protections such as healthcare.

He tweeted: "Five days have passed and while I’ve agreed to be tested, Dana has vanished like Casper.

"Dana, my one-fight deal, I will fight for $50K, the new minimum. You make millions off of me and all of UFC fighters benefit from the new minimum rev share and healthcare."

Masvidal was for all intents and purposes a pawn in the rivalry between Paul and White, with the YouTuber urging the UFC boss to improve pay and conditions for fighters.

It came to a head in an outlandish diss track that Paul wrote on the promotional president, which included shots at Masvidal.

He joked that the fighter was "not rich", as well as mocking White and fellow UFC star Conor McGregor.

Both White and McGregor have told Mirror Fighting that they have yet to hear the song, which trended No.1 for music on YouTube and was streamed around four million times.
