Hearts’ appeal against Jorge Grant 's red card has been dismissed.
The midfielder was shown a straight red for a tackle on Motherwell ’s Callum Slattery five minutes before half-time during Sunday’s Premiership clash at Tynecastle. The Jambos went on to win 3-2 despite being reduced to ten men at 0-0. They raced into a two-goal lead thanks to Andy Halliday’s double either side of the break, but were pegged back by a Louis Moult penalty and Blair Spitall’s strike with ten minutes left.
However, they were awarded a spot-kick of their own in the 89th minute, which Lawrence Shankland duly converted to send them fourth in the table. Now attention turns to Ibrox, where Robbie Neilson takes his team on Wednesday evening in a bid to pile on the misery for embattled Rangers boss Gio van Bronckhorst. But Grant will be unavailable after his fast track tribunal hearing on Tuesday afternoon ruled that the decision was correct.
Neilson explained after the game how ref Kevin Clancy claimed the tackle was high. However, Hearts saw it differently and used that as the basis for their appeal.
“We just felt that it wasn’t serious foul play,” said Neilson. “We felt his foot was low. He catches the guy on the foot, fair enough. It’s a reckless tackle but it’s not serious foul play.
Grant not only misses the trip to Ibrox, but will also be on the sidelines when Hearts host Livingston on Saturday. The Premiership then takes. a back seat due to the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, resuming in December.
