Jorge Grant Hearts red card appeal fails as midfielder set to miss Rangers and Livingston tussles

Jorge Grant's red card against Motherwell has not been overturned and he won't play for Hearts before the World Cup break.

The Jambos appealed the decision to send him off after VAR backed Kevin Clancy's decision to dismiss the midfielder for a challenge on Callum Slattery in their impressive 3-2 win over Motherwell. But Grant isn't going to feature away at Rangers on Wednesday and Livingston at Tynecastle on Saturday after the appeal failed. Manager Robbie Neilson's side are up to fourth in the table ahead of their trip to Govan.

They are one man down for the trip to a side who are under huge pressure after a 2-1 defeat on Sunday to St Johnstone. But Neilson isn't reading into that with his focus on Hearts : “Whenever you go to Ibrox, it’s always a difficult game. It does not matter if Rangers have won four games in a row or if they’ve lost a few. They’ve got a squad filled with international players, it’ll be a full house, so we’re under no illusions about how tough it’s going to be.

“There’s always pressure at Rangers. Just like us and every other club. It’s the nature of football nowadays. Every team is expected to win every game.

"You can have all the plans you want when you go to Ibrox, until you run out of them. We’ve got an idea about what we’d like to do and what our gameplan entails.

"We need to wait and see how the night transpires. Motherwell was a big confidence booster but it’s a whole different ball game when you go to Ibrox.”
