Jordi Murphy eyes big finale as he makes emotional announcement about his future

Jordi Murphy says there is "still a bit of rugby to be played" as he announced his retirement from the game at the end of the current season.

The Ulster backrower post an emotional message on his Instagram page announcing his decision to hang up his boots at the end of the campaign.

The 31-year -old, who played over 100 games for Leinster as well, said he felt the "time was right" to call it a day and that he was looking forward to the next chapter with his family.

Murphy was capped 30 times for Ireland and was a member of the successful 2015 Six Nations squad.

He was selected as a member of the 31-man Ireland squad for the 2015 Rugby World Cup and scored Ireland's first try in the historic 40–29 defeat of New Zealand on 5 November 2016 before being stretchered off with what proved to be an ACL injury.

Murphy was initially left out of Joe Schmidt's squad for the 2019 World Cup before being a late call up after an injury to Jack Conan.

Murphy said playing for his country would be "one of the highlights" of his life, and he also tagged his club sides in the post saying playing for both would be experiences he would always cherish.

"I have decided to retire from professional rugby at the end of this current season," read his post on Instagram.

"I feel like the time is right and together with my family we are looking forward to the next chapter in our lives.

"The overwhelming feeling right now is of gratitude. For a career that I never even dreamed of having.

"For my wife Laura, who has always been by my side. for my mum and dad who supported my long before becoming a professional player was even an option.

"For family and friends who have backed me through the highs and lows of the game.

"For my agent Niall and the team @navybluesports for all the off field support.

"For all the teammates, back room staff and coaches, past and present, many of whom will remain lifelong friends.

"To play for my boyhood club @leinsterrugby and my current club @officialulster rugby are experiences I will always cherish.

"To have represented my country @irishrugby will be one of the highlights of my life.

"That being said - there's still a bit of rugby to be played.

"I look forward to contributing as best I can to the team for the remainder of the season."
