Jordan is set to host a summit on Syria over the weekend, as announced by the foreign ministry in Amman on Thursday. The summit will bring together foreign ministers from Western and Arab nations to discuss ways to support a smooth transitional process in Syria, led by Syrians themselves.
The top diplomats are scheduled to meet on Saturday in the coastal city of Aqaba in Jordan. Among the Arab nations that will be represented at the summit are Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Lebanon, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Qatar.
Joining them will be key figures such as Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, and United Nations envoy for Syria, Geir O. Pedersen.
The primary focus of the summit will be on the reconstruction of Syrian state institutions. The goal is to rebuild these institutions in a manner that safeguards Syria's unity, territorial integrity, sovereignty, security, stability, and the rights of all its citizens.
