Jordan Pickford responds after Everton accused of financial rule breach by Premier League

Jordan Pickford has become the first person connected to Everton to speak publicly about the club being referred to an independent commission by the Premier League.

The Blues have been referred to the commission over an alleged breach of profit and sustainability rules. The Premier League did not reveal the specifics of the club's alleged breach, other than saying it occurred in the period ending with the 2021/22 season.

Following the announcement by the Premier League, Everton released a statement in which they issued a defiant riposte, insisting they are "entirely confident" that the club "remains compliant with all financial rules and regulations."

Pickford, who is away on international duty, was speaking alongside England manager Gareth Southgate to preview the clash against Ukraine at Wembley on Sunday evening.

And when asked about the issue, the Everton and England goalkeeper said: “I've obviously seen it on Sky Sports and I believe Everton have put a statement out there, and that's all I can really say.

"My job is playing football and keeping the ball out of the back of the net. I've seen it, but I can't say any more."

In their statement, Everton said: "The club strongly contests the allegation of non-compliance and together with its independent team of experts is entirely confident that it remains compliant with all financial rules and regulations.

"The club has, over several years, provided information to the Premier League in an open and transparent manner and has consciously chosen to act with the utmost good faith at all times."

The Blues currently sit 15th in the Premier League table - two points above the relegation zone. They return to action against Tottenham Hotspur at Goodison Park a week on Monday.
