Jordan Pickford makes Frank Lampard admission after Everton tactical change

Jordan Pickford thinks Frank Lampard has added a "spark" to Everton since his appointment as manager.

The Chelsea icon was brought in to replace Rafael Benitez and has overseen three wins and three losses in all competitions so far.

Two of those victories came in the FA Cup, with Thursday's win over Boreham Wood putting the Toffees into the quarter-finals.

The three defeats in the Premier League have done little to help Everton's relegation plight and while they were unfortunate to lose to champions Manchester City on Saturday, they could be in the bottom three by the they kick-off at Tottenham Hotspur on Monday.

Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of that encounter with Tottenham Hotspur, Pickford praised the impact of the new boss and noted the tactical traits he wants to add to the team's play.

"I feel the spark is there," said the England goalkeeper. "The new manager has come in and we've started off well.

"We've been in games a lot more and now it's just about getting the results. We've had a couple of tough fixtures but every game in the Premier League is tough so it's about being on your A game every time.

"We're trying to play out from the back a lot more now. We're having a lot more possession in games.

"I know we didn't against Manchester City as you're never going to have more possession than them because they're that good of a side, but we are now more of a possession-based team, and I feel like we're being more aggressive now without the ball."

Everton were excellent for long spells against City, before a late goal from Phil Foden gave the visitors the lead.

The Toffees were then inexplicably denied the chance to equalise from the penalty spot, despite a blatant handball from Rodri.

But they head into this round of fixtures with the worst away record in the Premier League.
