Jordan Henderson reveals agony of Man City's Premier League win ahead of Champions League final

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has admitted that the Champions League final will help him and his teammates "get over" Sunday’s Premier League title loss to Manchester City.

Jurgen Klopp’s side were pipped to the Premier League crown by one point thanks to City’s remarkable 3-2 comeback against Aston Villa. City's win ended Liverpool's dreams of an extraordinary Quadruple.

Liverpool play Real Madrid in Saturday's Champions League final after Los Blancos’ semi-final win over City. It will be Henderson’s third Champions League final, having lost to Real in 2018 before lifting the trophy a year later with a win over Tottenham.

Henderson has told GQ that the prospect of winning another trophy is helping the Liverpool squad forget about their near-miss in the Premier League: “Obviously, there was disappointment after the game [on] Sunday and how it happened - to miss out by a point was a tough one to take," he said.

“But we had a day or two off and the refocus is a pretty good one – to focus on the Champions League final is pretty special so it'll help us get over it quickly. You've got to put things in perspective and we've had a really positive season.

“Two trophies, we pushed City right to the wire - so hopefully, we can just finish off on a high on Saturday.” Henderson went on to pay tribute to City for their league heroics and trophy successes over the last few years. “It’s always important to respect the opponent, especially for me and how I've been brought up.

“How can you not compliment what City have done over the past few years and what they've won? And playing for Liverpool and what we've achieved and how we've done it and the way we play, it's hard not to do so when it’s me, I just try and be as honest as I can and speak how I feel.”
