Jurgen Klopp explains Liverpool midfield decisions as Stefan Bajcetic on bench against Man United

Jordan Henderson returns for Liverpool against Manchester United as Jurgen Klopp makes three changes in total.

The Reds beat Wolves 2-0 on Wednesday night to go within six points of the top four but Stefan Bajcetic drops out for the captain at Anfield as Klopp's side host their fierce rivals.

Andy Robertson returns to the team in place of Kostas Tsimikas on the left side of the defence as Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk continue their partnership at centre-half alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold on the right.

Cody Gakpo starts ahead of Diogo Jota after the Portugal international first start at Anfield for four and a half months earlier this week. Netherlands international Gakpo is expected to lead the line with Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez either side of him.

Victory for Liverpool this afternoon will take them above Newcastle into fifth and to within three points of fourth-place Tottenham, who lost 1-0 against Wolves on Saturday afternoon.

Explaining his decisions in midfield, Klopp said ahead of the game: "Just a mix. The mix of what we need - the experience, and the football part. Harvey played a really good game against Wolves. We set a new record, in this season at least, in counter-pressing situations. Harvey was very much involved in that. In top of that he's a good connector.

"Hendo, with his experience and all these kind of things...it's nothing about Stefan - he was outstanding. We had other options as well. That's good, it didn't happen that often this season."

Liverpool: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Fabinho, Elliott, Henderson; Salah, Gakpo, Nunez

Subs: Kelleher, Milner, Firmino, Jones, Jota, Tsimikas, Carvalho, Matip, Bajcetic.

Man United: De Gea; Dalot, Varane, Martinez, Shaw; Casemiro, Fred; Antony, Fernandes, Rashford; Weghorst.
