Jordan Henderson makes Liverpool squad admission ahead of Chelsea cup final clash

Jordan Henderson believes Liverpool are making life "really hard" for Jurgen Klopp - and it could prove the difference as they look to claim their first honour of the season.

The Reds will aim for a record-breaking ninth League Cup final triumph when they face Chelsea at Wembley on Sunday.

Liverpool are also in a strong position to reach the Champions League quarter-finals, have progressed to the last 16 of the FA Cup and stood just three points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City going into the weekend.

Henderson has previously stated this is the best group of players he has played alongside during his 11 years at the club, surpassing even the squad that won the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup and Premier League in 2019 and 2020.

The strength in depth has meant a number of available senior players have not been involved in recent weeks, with some likely to again be disappointed at Wembley.

And the Reds skipper is confident such an array of options, while giving Klopp a selection poser, can continue making an impact regardless of whether they are in the starting line-up or not.

"If you look at the squad, there are people who aren't even on the bench who are top-quality players," said Henderson. "That makes it really hard for the manager to make decisions.

"People are coming on from the bench making a big impact in games and making a difference, which has been huge over the last few weeks.

"A lot of the squad have been together for a long time and we've added to that with new signings.

"We are in a really good moment. All the tactical work we do on the grass with the coaches and working on different things over the past year or so, we have used that really well in games.

"As the season has gone on we have got stronger and stronger, and now we are at the business end I just hope we can continue that form."

While having lost just two of their last 49 games in all competitions, Liverpool have not picked up any silverware in 18 months with Klopp imploring his side to add more trophies to the Anfield cabinet.

And asked if that puts any greater pressure on the players, Henderson said: "You always have pressure playing for Liverpool. Ever since I've arrived at the club, the expectancy is huge.

"You should be challenging for trophies year in, year out, and that's what people expect with Liverpool. That doesn't change.

"Yes, we have won one or two things over the past few years but you always want more. We always want to improve as a team.

"I feel as though we have done that and are doing that, but you have to get over the line in finals and win big trophies."

When Henderson last lifted silverware, it was at an empty Anfield with supporters unable to attend the Premier League coronation in July 2020 due to coronavirus restrictions.

Around 33,000 Liverpool fans will officially be inside Wembley for the club's first domestic final since the League Cup defeat to Manchester City six years ago.

And Henderson - who was part of the last Liverpool team to win the League Cup when beating Cardiff City in 2012 - said: "It would be another big moment for us as a team to get over the line and win a trophy this season, and for the fans to be there.

"We know it won't be easy. Chelsea are a fantastic side with world-class players. Chelsea have won a few trophies over the past year. They are in a very good moment.

"We know ourselves when you win one trophy, they all come. You keep going and you have momentum and you seem to pick up one or two more along the way, and Chelsea have done that after winning the Champions League.

"But it's our job to stop that and make sure we are the ones going home with the trophy. Hopefully at the end of the game we can celebrate with our fans."
